Medical Grade Silicone
There is no licensed indication for using medical grade silicone injections in the skin.
Medical grade silicone is available for injection in certain specialised indications in the eye and we keep a small stock for “off label” use in certain situations where a “permanent” material may be considered appropriate.
Unlike the powder in Sculptra, the body has no mechanism to metabolise silicone so the material remains in the tissue where it is placed and the healing mechanisms form fibrous tissue around it to produce the volume enhancement. Medical Grade Silicone is injected as micro-droplets and the new tissue develops over several weeks. The improvement is built up over a series of injections and once achieved should be permanent. Our doctors may discuss this with you as a possible treatment in certain types of acne and chicken pox scars.
